Beliau menyampaikan bahwa Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) memegang peranan penting sebagai tulang punggung ekonomi kerakyatan. UMKM adalah sektor usaha yang melibatkan skala kecil hingga menengah, seringkali dikelola oleh pemilik usaha atau keluarga. Kegiatan UMKM mencakup beragam sektor, seperti industri, perdagangan, dan jasa. Peran UMKM dalam ekonomi kerakyatan tidak hanya menciptakan lapangan pekerjaan, tetapi juga menjadi motor penggerak pertumbuhan ekonomi di tingkat lokal. Perkembangan UMKM menjadi sorotan utama dalam konteks penguatan ekonomi kerakyatan.
UMKM memiliki kemampuan untuk merespons perubahan pasar dengan lebih fleksibel dibandingkan dengan perusahaan besar. Pemerintah Indonesia telah mengakui pentingnya UMKM sebagai pilar utama dalam pembangunan ekonomi nasional, sehingga berbagai program dan kebijakan telah diimplementasikan untuk mendukung perkembangan sektor ini. Banyak mahasiswa yang tertarik terlibat dalam pengembangan UMKM sebagai bagian dari upaya mendukung pertumbuhan ekonomi lokal dan mengurangi tingkat pengangguran. Meskipun berkembang pesat, UMKM dihadapkan pada berbagai tantangan dan hambatan. Salah satu hambatan utama adalah akses terbatas terhadap modal dan teknologi, sehingga menghambat inovasi dan pengembangan usaha.
Selain itu, permasalahan terkait regulasi, birokrasi, dan kurangnya pemahaman terhadap manajemen usaha juga menjadi tantangan serius bagi UMKM. Mahasiswa sebagai agen perubahan diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi melalui penelitian dan keterlibatan aktif dalam mengatasi kendala-kendala ini.
